About ninety (90) Ghanaians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) illegally arrived in the country between 19 and 20 May 2023.
The deportees in two groups from Emirates and Ethiopian Airlines went through Ghana'snecessary immigration processat the Kotoka International Airport before being handed over to the National Bureau ofInvestigation (NIB) for further action. MyNewsGh.comconfirmed that many of them, through fake recruiters, travelto Dubai illegally while others have their visas suspended.
It is known that more than 431 of these people are currently in Dubai, many of whom believed they were in detention when officials brought them into the city only to face a different reality. Sources from Ghana's immigration officials revealed to this portal that more peopleare expected to be deported in the coming days as the number of people who have arrived in the country so far is only a fraction. of those expected.
It should be remembered that at the end of last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MFARI) said efforts were being made to deport about 431 Ghanaians who were detained in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). With 341 men, 88 women and two children under the age of three, they were lured there by employers who promised them jobs in Dubai and other cities in the United Arab Emirates.
They were held at the Al Tawadi Medical Center and the DubaiImmigration Center, alongside an unknown number of African migrants who shared the same fate. A statement released by MFARI said the government is working with the UAEauthorities to bring the stranded citizens home safely.
