Newspaper double down on Aker Energy's 'illegal PR payments' to top journalists 


PrimeMark Company Limited, the publishers of the Herald, has hit back at Joy FM after its parent company, the Multimedia Group, issued a statement regarding allegations published by the Herald about one of its top journalists.

The Herald previously reportedthat about $125,281.21 was paid to EXCOMsult Media, owned by journalist Evans Mensah, by Aker Energy to bribe journalists and community organizations (CSOs) to avoid Aker Energy's efforts to The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is asking questions. ) to close a $1.6 billion deal. According tothe report, Aker Energy hiredEvans Mensah from January 1, 2022 to December 2022, indicating that he received more than the stated amount. 

The journalist himself who hosts the main news programon Joy FM and JOY TV reacted to the report saying that he worked for Aker Energy and his association with them as clients is public knowledge . He deniedthe amount he was paid, but did not say how much he was paid for his work. 

In their statement, Multimedia said it had launched a thorough investigation into Evans' claimsabout working at Aker and receiving less than the Herald claimed. In their response onMay 20, 2023 to Joy FM, themanagement of the Herald questioned how Evans and his employer could not explain the figures despite their differences.
