Nicky Devlin admitted that a major factor in his choice to move from Livingston to the Granite City was Barry Robson's desire to bring him to Aberdeen.
The 29-year-old Livi captain, a free agent at the conclusion of current season, seemed to be paraded by the Dons in a newly released photo.
Devlin, who joined Livingston from Walsall in 2019, admitted that his contract "has not all been ticked off yet" but opened up about the primary factors that pushed him to choose Aberdeen ahead of Wednesday night's home game against Motherwell.
"I spoke to the manager a few times, and I know Liam Fox, who works in his backroom up there," he stated.
Speaking with him (the manager), I got the impression that their club was pushing the envelope more than any other.
For me, the experience was extremely similar to when I signed with Livingston.They certainly made it plain they wanted me to come here when I spoke with the manager at the time, David Martindale. That slightly eases the situation."The style of play they have adopted since the new manager arrived in suits me and with everything being well we will be in European football next season as well, which is obviously a major lure," said Aberdeen. "Aberdeen looks like a club on the road up, especially from recent seasons.
But it was quite challenging. I enjoy playing here and am at a club where I feel appreciated, therefore that made the decision to maybe leave this club that much tougher.Therefore, how that plays out over the coming weeks will likely depend on decisions made by the players and possibly judgments made by other football teams over whether they are willing to pay for our players.
"That's not to say Motherwell will accept that, but those are the kinds of circumstances that will change the staff that we have at our football club," the statement continued.
