Why the new logo was chosen for the independent of Kumawu by EC

The upcoming election inKumawu has caught the attention of many people because some issues areemerging ahead of the election that will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

The constituency will vote for another MP following the deathof its MP; Philip Basoah diedafter a short illness on March 27, 2023. Before the election,two candidates themselves gave some kind of identity.

These two candidates
 are responding by name - Kwaku Duah who is not their name, seems to be in the same uniform; Kente and has onesymbol - dove. The sign of one of the candidates - the youngKwaku Duah was turned into an ax by the election officials and the election officials explainedwhy.

In a report from Graphiconline, the Commission said that the two candidates presented a picture of themselves in the same uniform and seal to the regional officer of the Commission in Kumawu. The EC has not approved this election notice or published it in the Official Journal, which makes it non-legal and binding. The notice of election may be legally binding and binding after publication. In a statement dated May 21, 2023, the EC saidthat;

“There is no such thing as sharing
 on social media. When this anomaly was brought to the attention of the Commission, the second independent candidate was advised to change his markssince he was the last to submit his nomination form.

The EC further stated that it is legal to apply Rule 14(1) (b) and (c) of the Public Elections Act,2020, C.I. 127 which allows the EC to use its discretion to select marks for a candidate in this case. position because the second candidate refused to comply with the Commission's instructions to change his marks. Election poll for KUMAWU by poll

Electoral officials have
 been distracted by election noticescirculating on social media claiming to be for the Kumawu election. The election announcement has a picture of two independent people,wearing kente clothes. Said candidates have the symbol of the bird.

For public information, these two independent people brought a picture of themselves in kente and a picture of a bird as a sign to our local officer in Kumawu. On the basis of this, an election notice was prepared with photos of the independents with names, uniforms and symbols, and submitted to the committee for approval.

It has not been approved by the Commission or published in the official gazette. Election information shall not be legally binding and shall be retained until published in the Gazette.The version that is circulating on social networks has not been published. It is a simple document that displays pictures and logos provided to the local user.

When this anomaly was brought to the attention of the Commission, the second independent candidate was advised to change the marksince he was the last to submit his nomination form. It refused to do so, requiring the Commission to apply regulation 14 (1) (b) and (c) of the Public Elections Act, 2020, CI 127 which states:

14(1)
 \"Where an election is contested, the Commission shall, as soon as practicable after the date of the election;

(b) assign a candidate to a registered political party without endorsing the symbol, color or combination of colors to be chosen by that person; Or

(c) assign such logo, color or combination of colors as the Commission thinks fit in allother circumstances”.

The commission gave him a signof nausea which is reflected in the election notices posted all over Kumawu. We assure the public that the commission will not tolerate actions that violateits constitution and may damage its reputation and integrity.

It is very true that as a Commissioner we work and liveby our principles:

Integrity, fairness and transparency. We will continue to do so, GOD is our helper.

The approved election notice is added and published in the Official Gazette for the Kumawu election. In less than 24 hours, voters in Kumawu Constituency will elect their Member of Parliament for the posthumous election.

Philip Basoah died on MondayMarch 27 at the Korle Bu University Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. According to a report from Kumawu MP Philip Basoah's brother, Solomon Basoah, his brother was found unconscious in his house on March 24 and was taken to hospital where he died four days later.

The deceased New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency.
