Launch of African U-16 Baby Jet Football Tournament 2023in Accra
32 teams will participate in the 2023 edition of the Baby Jet U-16 African Football Tournament that will take place at the Cape Coast Stadium from 6th to 13thJune 2023, with the hope of creating the next big star that will hit Europe.
At a well-attended press conference to launch this year'stournament, experts descended on MultiChoice Ghana headquarters to begin the hunt for Africa's future footballers. Former Black Stars internationals Stephen Appiah, John Paintsil, Laryea Kingston, Emmanuel Agyeman Badu and Nii Odartey Lamptey were in attendance supported by the PFA and Ghana Football Association through Anthony Baffoe and Bernard Lippert, who is the Technical Director of the company. Launch of African U-16 Baby Jet Football Tournament 2023in Accra
The Asamoah Gyan Foundation's signature annual event, the tournament, which provides an opportunity for young players to show their potential, has a new twist this year and many African clubs have also been invited to the center. In the 32-team tournament, football schoolsfrom Togo, Nigeria, Benin, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso will travel to Ghana to compete with 22 other Ghanaian clubs at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The competition started in 2018 at Accra Academy Astro Turf and Great Somas won the inaugural edition. This competition led to the discovery of Matthew Anim Cudjoe, who is currently with Scottish side Dundee United.
Others from the ranks in the first edition include Emmanuel Yeboah, now with Cluj while Raymond Anokye Asante wasrecently with Udinese. SamuelGidi (Zilina FC), Michael Lamptey (Zilina FC), Derrick Mensah, (WAFA) and Moses Abbey (Italy) are products of the Baby Jet U-16 football tournament.

Speaking to the press, former Black Stars player Asamoah Gyan could not hide his joy as the tournament draws near.
"I am honored to be where I am. When you talk about the Baby Jet U-16 tournament, it is something to thank Ghanaians for their support all these years and it is all I can do to give back,” he said.
"This year, we are trying to take it to the next level by considering [countries in the sub-region] of Africa to participate as well."
Asamoah Gyan in his speechsaid that the main thing about this competition is to first bring out talent, train them and give them an opportunity to be evaluated by the best people in the world. The approved teams that will participate in the third competition are as follows;

Registration for the tournament is expected on Wednesday May 24 and the team is expected to arrive in Cape Coast on June 4.
