Stop attacks on immigration officials at the Borders - GIS management warns
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has condemned the attack on a group of immigrationofficers patrolling the Aflao border last night, calling for an end to such acts.
The security personnel who were patrolling Beat 6 of Aflao border, were stoned and three of them were seriously injuredand are currently being treatedat the Ketu South Municipal Hospital under tight security. GIS, in a journal signed by hisPublic Officer, C/SUPT. Michael Amoako-Atta said that although they are grateful forthe support and cooperation of the border residents and citizens, these attacks on some public servants are immediately stopped. “Ghanaian Immigration officials have received an alarmingreport of an attack on a group of immigration officers on patrol in Beat 6 of the Aflao border by unknown assailants at about 11:00 am: 25 last night.
“However, the assailants were dispersed by warning shots fired by the security forces before the arrival of a supportteam of immigration officials. However, a bystander was shotand is currently receiving treatment.
“We strongly condemn thisattack and advise the Aflaoborder guards, travelers and citizens in general to treat theborder guards as those who are ultimately working for the security of the homeland us,"the statement said. He said thatGIS officials will continue to closely monitor the situation in Aflao and that all necessary measures will be put in place to ensure the security of theborder without compromising.
He called on all workers,especially Aflao branch managers to remain strong and not give up because of this tragedy.
