In response to remarks made by former Fir Park striker Louis Moult, Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell emphasized that only external decisions could provide him any more flexibility in the transfer market.
After his comeback to the club was derailed by injury, Moult stated in an interview published in the Herald on Saturday that he had "unfinished business" at Motherwell.
After making just one appearance this season and scoring his 51st goal for the club, the striker, who previously had a tremendously successful stint at Motherwell between 2015 and 2018, cut short a season-long loan in January after undergoing an ankle treatment.
Moult, 31, was let go by Burton Albion and is now a free agent. He underlined that he had been back in shape and trained for approximately a month.
I have read the article, Kettlewell replied. Louis and I do not get along very well. Only a few weeks had passed since I had him here, and it was clear that he was injured.Although he has a stellar track record and is adored by the local fans, I do not believe Louis said anything was going on.It was about his history with the football team, his relationship with them, and obviously his displeasure at the limited contribution his injuries prevented him from making on the field.
I do not believe there is much in the narrative to read too much into.
The situation might conceivably alter if Kevin van Veen, who has 27 goals this year, draws attention ahead of Wednesday's decisive Premiership match at Livingston.
The contracts of Jonathan Obika, Jack Aitchison, and Mikael Mandron expire at the end of the current campaign, while Connor Shields, who recently returned from a loan at Queen's Park, has one year remaining on his contract.
Kettlewell stated: "Obviously we find ourselves in a position where I am delighted with the group but I believe everybody understands that there might be apparent changes there with guys who are out of contract and others being interested in our players.
