Kumawu election: Don'tembarrass NPP - NAPO appeals to Kumawu voters.
The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and the Minister of Energy is Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka NAPO has appealed to voters in Kumawu Constituency, a strong New Patriotic Party (NPP) party not to vote against the party in the May 23 parliamentary assembly.
NAPO's appeal comes as the people of Kumawu vowed to vote against the NPP because of the lack of development in their community even though they voted for the party in the last election. The Minister of Power, who was speaking to some residents of Kumawu, tasked them to vote for the NPP candidate in the local elections as the party wanted numbers in Parliament.
“Please don't embarrass us, don't embarrass us. We will build roads; we will fix your fire,”NAPO, who is in the office of NPP bigwigs including the chairman of the party, Stem Ntim, told Twi.
He added, "We want you to vote for us, so we can continue the good work we are doing." Background:
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has declared the Kumawu constituency seat vacant following the death of MP Philip Basoah.
Speaking on the floor of the House on March 31, 2023, the Speaker said: "...we have informed the Chairman of the Electoral Commission aboutthis tragic death of our colleague who made the House vacant."
The Secretary of Parliamentsent the message to the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) on March 31 in terms of section 3 of the Republic of Ghana Amendment Act of 1996 ACT 52. The EC then fixedTuesday, May 23, 2023 as the date for the primaries.
