Life comes in stages. You start as a fetus in your mother's
womb. You become an infant, a teenager, and then hit adulthood. Every stage
comes with its own opportunities and challenges. Decisions you make in one
stage can affect the other. Your twenties (20s) are an early part of adulthood. You
need to take a lot of decisions for yourself at this stage.
In Ghana, most people in their twenties are probably still in school (tertiary education), starting a career, entering a new relationship, or starting life on their own. This may be similar in other countries. This is the stage where a lot of lifelong and critical decisions need to be made because it is the starting point of your adult life. This can be daunting. Most decisions taken in your 20s can potentially affect your old age.

Felicia is very active on LinkedIn and shares a lot of career advice and life lessons with her followers. In one of her LinkedIn posts, she shares important things people in their twenties must pay attention to. Here are some of the valuable points she made in her post.
1. Adopting
a healthy lifestyle
Adopting a healthy lifestyle in your 20s can lessen the risk
of getting some diseases in the future. Felicia says your twenties are the best
times to build healthy habits because they will serve you well throughout your
life. Your 20s is where you look energetic so you may not pay attention to
health. A study published in the Journal of Circulation found an association
between maintaining a healthy lifestyle in young adulthood and low
cardiovascular disease in middle age. The healthy lifestyle factors include a
lean body mass index, no excess alcohol intake, no smoking, a healthy diet, and
regular physical activity. You can reduce your medical bills in the future when
you pay attention to your health now.
2. Build
your network
According to Felicia, networking is key to success. Your
twenties are not too early to begin building professional contacts. She suggests
LinkedIn should be used to establish professional connections. LinkedIn is a
great platform to connect and learn from professionals in your field. It is
important to post contents that are pertinent on social media, join
professional organizations, and interact with the people you admire.
3. Invest
in your education and career
She says education sets the pillar for a successful career.
This is not limited to formal or classroom learning. You have to capitalize on
every opportunity to learn. This means you have to make good use of every
opportunity to help you learn a new skill or gain new knowledge. This skill or
knowledge can benefit you later in life.
4. Embrace
change
Felicia also mentions that your twenties also have ups and downs. Accept change and learn to adapt to new situations. This shows that life may not go as expected but you have to learn how to adjust to new challenges when they come.
It is necessary to make the right choices in life. It is not
too late or early to start making the hard decisions.
