Members of the
New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), along with two independents, are fightingtoday Tuesday May 23 for the Kumawu parliamentary seat.

And the Ghana police said they have put in place plans to provide adequate security to ensure law and order. The appointment was prompted by the death of the NPP MP for the constituency, Philip Basoah, in March.

The two political parties are focused on gaining seats to increase their numbers in parliament and to measure their respective campaigns beforethe 2024 presidential and legislative elections. The incumbent NPP is confident of retaining the seat despite stiffopposition from the NDC and two independents.

For example, the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urged NPP supporters to come out in numbers and vote in large numbers for the party'sparliamentary candidate, Ernest Yaw Anim. Dr Bawumia said the government wants to show Ghana that Kumawu is an NPP constituency and that they are prepared to retain the seat.

“In this local election, we want all Ghanaians to know that Kumawu is an NPP constituency. With love, come out in large numbers to vote for our MP Ernest Yaw Anim to win this general election.

“He is
humble, hardworking and intelligent. He will see to the development of Kumawu. I lovehim so much, let's all vote for him boom boom,” urged Dr Bawumia.

Meanwhile, our NDC National Youth Coordinator George Opare Addo is optimistic thatthe party is poised to surprise everyone by winning the Kumawu local elections. Hesaid that the NDC is working hard to ensure that it wins in the constituency.

Mr.
Opare Addo also said that victory will not only shake the country's political situation, it will also anger some politicians. "There will be a surprise in Kumawu that there will be a new MP from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency."

Independent
candidates, at thesame time, have the same nameand uniform, in kente, and election status. They originally had the same label, until the EC intervened when the public wanted to change the group. One of the two independents, who had already competed and scored impressive numbers but lost, had the mark of a dark horse. And he says it's his turn. Kumawu has 34,800 registered voters for the 2020 general election.

Meanwhile, the EC, which is organizing the election, has made it known that everything is necessary for the election, while the police have been deployed to ensure that nothing happens.
