ECG is starting a fund raising program abroad
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that they will begin another local tax hike following the month's win that started in March and ends in April.
The five-day exercise will begin on Monday, May 29 and end on Friday, June 2. In a statement released on Tuesday, May 23, the company said that "the scope of the fundraisingexercise will focus on all typesof customers who pay on time,including state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and members will be arrested and prosecuted will be investigated. Customers who try to prevent the exercise, and/or engage in illegal re-association to stop."

The company said as a result, "ECG will work with a smallstaff that will provide customers with the necessaryservices during the fundraisingperiod to ensure full controland staff participation."
So far, the company says it has recovered about 3.1 billion gh¢of the total debt of 5.7 billion gh¢ owed by customers during the previous revenue import campaign.
Speaking at a press conference,the director of the company,Samuel Mahama, said thatalthough the company has achieved great success, it still has a long way to go. "Out of 5.7billion Gh¢, ECG managed to recover 3.1 billion GH¢," he said on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
Mr. Mahama said that despite efforts to recover the remaining funds, some companies were not found and others failed. “There are many failedcompanies that we cannot find in terms of some taking meters and some of them are not located.
“Their total combined debt is about Gh¢750 million and the last group is paid by consumers. It may be that we want to reassure them, but some of them are true.
“There have been demolitions,some of them have been flooded, so the places are gone,some of them, we can't seethem. Their debt is about 750 million gh¢,” he added.
The head of the companywarned customers who use electricity illegally to make amends or face prosecution for electricity theft.
