"The PetroSA deal is stupid and outrageous" - NAPO calledFreddie Blay, GNPC 


The Minister of Fire is Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka NAPO has called out the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Chairman of the Board Freddie Blay over the PetroSA deal, which aims to divest some of Ghana's oil interests. and the South African National Company (PetroSA).

According to The Chronicle,NAPO, in a letter he wrote to Freddie Blay, who he saw,accused the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman of supporting the agreementdespite the government's order let him stop. The Minister of Energy, who is also the Memberof Parliament for Manhyia South, told Blay that it was a shame for him to push the deal, despite being repeatedly told that he would not accept it because it not in Ghana's interest. 

He ordered the chairman of the board of directors of GNPC to withdraw from the contract and stop other activities in the matter. "While meeting with my counterpart, the HonorableGwede Mantasha, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy in South Africa, I had the opportunity to respond to him in the correct manner with two letters that continue to supportthe position government in the question. , and you are in the template in all cases. "Therefore, it is abhorrent that despite these instructions, you made GNPC to give part of the JOHL government acquiredinterest in DWT and PetroSA. I order you to cease and desist for immediate instructions and withdraw the said provision immediately. to PetroSA in your letter of April 23, 2023," a text from Napo's letter to Blay wasquoted by The Chronicle. Inanother letter to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NAPO complained that Blay was complying with the PetroSA contract even though he was ordered not to.



He told the President that GNPC is trying to sell 50% of the 7% interest that the government recently acquired in Anadarko West Cape Three Points Company (WCTPC). "The GNPC Chairman of the Board, in the aforementioned letter, calls on PetroSA to first divestthe 7% that the Government of Ghana recently acquired from Anadarko West Cape Three Points Company ("Anadarko" )and proposed the equivalent of the Deep Water Tano Unit ("DWT"), which would reducethe government's interest. 

"We want
 to bring this matterof the President, which is against the clear policy of the Government of Ghana on the matter, to the urgent attention of the President," part of the letter addressed to him. the secretary of the chief,
