Cynthia Delarko, a matron at Asukawkaw Senior High School (SHS) in the Oti Region's Krachi East Municipality, has been arrested on suspicion of taking food intended for the children. Mark Oduro, the assemblyman for the region, told Asaase News that he had received multiple allegations about the matron's tampering.
According to Oduro, his investigations revealed that Delarko was taking food twice a week. It is alleged that she hired drivers to deliver the stolen goods to Hohoe for secret objectives.
Oduro expressed worry that the matron's conduct violated the government's Free SHS program, which strives to offer kids with free education and assistance. As a result, Delarko was turned over to Katanga Police for further investigation.
Bags of grains and beans, large and small jars of canned tomatoes, and a gallon of vegetable oil were among the stolen foods.
According to the MCE, he got information that the school's food had been taken and was being kept in a neighboring residence.
It will be remembered that five people, including a matron and a landlord, were detained by police in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality of the Bono East Region in April 2023 for allegedly stealing food meant for SHS students.
The school's headmaster, John Sitsofe Nukunu, has refused to comment.
Kennedy Frimpong, the Katanga Police Commander, confirmed the arrest and claimed that an inquiry into the crime has begun.
The matron's alleged acts have aroused worries about the pupils' wellbeing and the need for tougher procedures to guarantee the correct usage of resources meant for their benefit.
Asukawkaw is a town in the Volta Region of Ghana. The town is known for the Asukawkaw Secondary School. The school is a second cycle institution.
