CSO 29 calls for the removal of Freddie Blay, Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah from GNPC
Some 29 civil society organizations (CSO) are demanding the removal of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) chairman of the board, Freddie Blay, and the acting chairman, Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah.
The CSOs, which include the African Center for Energy Policy (ACEP), the Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers of Ghana (COPEC) and 26 others, say thatthe two men "have become a source of shame fear for Ghana.". interest in the oil sector. In a statement found by JoyNews and approved by therepresentatives of CSO 29, the Union argued that the countries managed by the IMF cannot be seen to be involved in bankruptcy.

The group also wants detailedinformation about the AFC business and how much will be the price of oil and the closure of Aker PoD immediately from the Petroleum Commission and the government.
Giving further details, the groupsaid the ongoing dispute overAker Energy's work at the AGM in Ghana and the sale of Jubilee Oil Holding Limited's 50% stakein the Deepwater Tano block to PetroSA, is of great concern. The statement added, "In these difficult times, the countryneeds to carefully manage its resources in order to reap maximum benefits and bring relief to many who are suffering."
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh is accusing the Board ChairmanMr Blay of favoring the South African oil company, thePetroleum Oil and Gas Corporation of South Africa (PetroSA). in Ghana's oil sector. The chairman of the board of directors of GNPC has written to PetroSA recommending that they share the equity of GNPC's subsidiary Jubilee Oil Holdings Ltd.
But Dr Prempeh insists that this move is not in the interest of Ghana as the country will lose revenue. He is therefore asking Mr. Blay to withdraw the offer immediately.
