Greater Accra region's topmidwife has warned against the use of non-pharmacological drugs to treat fibroids.
Racheal Hesse Matey, theGreater Accra 2023 Rural Health Minister, has warnedwomen against taking over-the-counter drugs to treat fibroids.
He says that this disease affects a large number of women who need intensive care and should be treated by qualified health professionals. "Fibroid is a condition that when you disturb the herb can cause problems, people say that a small herb will make it go away. Greater Accra region's top midwife has warned against the use of non-pharmacological drugs to treat fibroids.
"When women hear that herbal medicine can cure fibroids and take these medicines regularly,it can lead to problems. Then they come back to the hospital with problems," he said.
“So we are telling women out there that when you see symptoms, go to the hospitaland get a proper checkup. "Women should not go to the medicine prescribed by their health professionals. Mothers should know that the symptoms of fibroids can be managed inthe hospital," he added. Ms Matey, a senior midwife at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), was speaking at a health education session organized in conjunction with the International Palace Church of Medina.
The event which attracted hundreds of women from themarket was themed "Diseasesand health problems among women giving birth".
Topics covered include preconception, fibroids and menstrual disorders. Fibroidsare non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus.The growth of muscle and fibrous tissue can be dangerous to women's health. Doctors Dr Emmanuel Kponor and Dr Ekow Amponsah Dadzie,who work in the Gynecology Department of Ridge Hospital,also warned against self-control of fibroids.
"We know that some women use drugs for fibroids. We don'twant to spoil anyone's business.But we will say any medicineyou take; A fibroid may shrink,but that doesn't mean it will disappear. “A few months later, it was possible to start again.So, I encourage women to come to the hospital for a checkup so we can take it from there,” Dr Kponor advised. Women who participated in the health forum asked various questions that were answered by the health team.
Ms. Matey said the organization's mission is to bring health care information closer to the people. "It's for our moms in the market so we can give the right information to moms, and to girls," she said. On May 5, Mrs. Matey was honored as a Midwife in the Greater Accra Region by the Ghana Health Service during the national launch of the 33rd Midwife Day and 2023 Awards Ceremony.
She is known for her efforts to support women before, duringand after birth, as well as for her educational efforts. "I am interested in the science and experience of pregnancy, workand care after childbirth. This motivates me to start a deeper study on this subject. I enjoy teaching mothers about labor. That is why I went to the radio and TV station to do such aneducational program,” he said about the award. “My favorite thing as a midwife is to see a mother have a successful pregnancy and a safe birth.
The Greater Accra Regional Director of Internal Medicine has warned against the use of non-pharmacological drugs to treat fibroids.
"My definition of a 'Hebrew woman' is to have a goodmother and child, regardless of birth type. I will continue to educate myself and improve my knowledge, so that I can help save the lives of many women and babies," she said.
Ms Matey said the award madeher want to do more. "I now see it as a huge responsibility on my shoulders. Greater Accra is waiting for you. Therefore, the vision will be great. Therefore,we will focus on health discussions and have one-on-one interviews with women," he added. Benard Mendah Adams, senior pastor of the International Palace Church in Medina, praised Ms Matey for her efforts.
