Players want to watch funfootball - Randy Abbey and weak GPL support
A member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association, Randy Abbey, has announced that fans have stopped going to the stadium to watch the Ghana Premier League because theclubs are not making them happy.
According to Randy Abbey, football is meant to be fun, but most club owners are interested in results rather than giving fans an unforgettable experience. "Above all, football is entertainment. For a fan who wants to go to the stadium, he wants to be entertained. As a club owner, football can also beentertainment and entertainment for you,” he said on Asempa FM.
He explained that the lack of celebrities attracting crowds to the stadium is one of the things that discourages fans from leaving their homes to come to the stadium. Randy Abbey, the owner of Heart of Lions, also said that GPL is now competing in European leagues and will drive away fans to watch GPL at the expense of EPL.
“The more fans know who they are going to watch, the more determined they are to watch. The fans expect what they want to see," he said.
He added, “People will chooseto pay 1 cedi to watch La Liga or EPL in video cinemas, but before these things were not available. In the past, we onlyhad the main game which was delayed by 3 days, now we have access to the highest football. So we need something that will attract fans to leave their homes and go to the stadium and buy tickets to watch the game.
