The incident happened on Friday night last week in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region, somewhere between Nipahiammoa and Bono Manso.
The Bono East Regional Fire Command reports that the mishap also caused burns to roughly 40 other passengers.
There were four people inside the trailer, including the trailer's driver, and 42 passengers on the Grandbird bus with the license plate AK-285-22.
Confirmation
Three persons were burned beyond recognition in the event, according to the Bono East Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer One (ACFO 1) Emmanuel Nkum, who verified the incident to the media.
Around 11:40 p.m., he said, the command received a distress call informing them of an accident at Bono Manso. They immediately sent several guys to put out the fire.
According to ACFOI Nkum, the caravan was moving in the direction of Tamale while the bus was headed from Tamale to Accra. As a result, they hit head-on.
a serious ailment
An eyewitness reported that some of the victims in severe condition were sent to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital, while those with less serious wounds were taken to the Jema Government Hospital.
The driver of the Grandbird bus attempted to pass a State Transport Corporation (STC) bus but afterwards reversed his choice, according to the conductor, who only went by the name Kofi.
He claimed that the bus's brakes failed, which caused the collision, and that the caravan caught fire immediately after the crash before spreading to the bus.
He claimed that before they were able to escape via the bus's windows, the passengers had to struggle.
a stable situation
18 individuals in all were carried to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital, according to Andrews Oppong, the shift in charge there.
He said that those who had minor injuries had been treated and released, while five people remained hospitalized but were in stable condition and continued undergoing care.
Mr. Oppong stated that the bus driver was seriously hurt and was taken to the hospital for treatment, adding that the majority of the passengers were not seriously hurt.
