After putting up an outstanding performance against the newly crowned champions Barcelona, Real Valladolid surged above Getafe and out of LaLiga's relegation zone.

Real Valladolid shocked Barcelona 3-1 at Jose Zorrilla to move out of the relegation zone and take a giant step toward LaLiga safety.

The hosts had dropped their previous five games, but after 22 minutes, an own goal by Andreas Christensen and a penalty by Cyle Larin gave them a two-goal advantage.

Gonzalo Plata's second-half goal rendered the outcome certain before Robert Lewandowski scored a late consolation.

As a result, Paulo Pezzolano's team surpasses Getafe and climbs to 17th place in the LaLiga standings, while Barca is still looking for their first league victory since being crowned champions two weeks ago.

After just 82 seconds, Christensen headed Darwin Machis' cross past his own goal to give Valladolid the lead.

Before the hosts extended their lead in the 22nd minute, Machis and Raphinha came close at either end. Larin converted from the spot after Plata was fouled by Eric Garcia.

Masip made two excellent saves to stop close-range attempts from Raphinha and Christensen, preventing Barca from responding right away.

Soon after the break, Alejandro Balde missed with a shot, but Valladolid kept up the pressure and came close to scoring a third when Plata's cross hit the outside of the post.

The closest Xavi's team came to mounting a comeback was when replacement Ferran Torres attempted to turn in Balde's cross at full stretch.

Instead, Plata's calm finish from Larin's cross would give Valladolid the victory in the 73rd minute following a VAR review.

The home team's late chip from Lucas Rosa hit the post, but Lewandowski's goal six minutes from time prevented them from keeping a clean sheet.

With the LaLiga championship officially secured, Barcelona has achieved their season goal, but Valladolid still has a lot to play for.

With only two league games left, the hosts took advantage of Barca's underwhelming effort to escape the drop zone and snap their five-game winless streak.

Fans of Valladolid will now be hoping that Getafe and Cadiz, two teams fighting for survival, also lose on Wednesday.
