Tragic incident: two brothers drowned in an abandoned lake in Akyem Oda
A heartbreaking incident has taken place in Akyem Oda, resulting in the drowning of two siblings, 13-year-old Esther Dede and 6-year-old Kofi Asare, as the child bravely tried to savehis sister from an abandoned lake.
Grace Asare, a trader and asingle mother reporting to the Daily Graphic in Oda, disclosedthat the three children, including the deceased, went to play near an abandoned lake in 'parts where timber is used for construction. According to him,a four-year-old boy who was playing with Esther came to tellthem that their ball had fallen into a pond, which is only a few meters from their home.
Ms. Asare explained that Esther tried to retrieve the ball but unfortunately it fell into the pool. Grieving over his sister'sdrowning, young Kofi tried to save her, but unfortunatelyboth lost their lives.
Saddened, Mrs. Asare tearfully shared that Kofi celebrated his fourth birthday earlier today. However, some residents of the town disputed Asare Asare'saccount, saying that her neglectwas responsible for the tragic death of her two children.
They said that when the villagers told Ms. Asare that her children were struggling to survive in the lake, she did not take the matter seriously but concentrated on preparing her dinner. According to witnesses, it was only at the end of theevening that Miss Asare learned that her two children had not returned home. He quickly told his neighbors, who joined him in searching for the children.
Unfortunately, they found Esther and Kofi's lifeless bodies floating on the lake. Later, a case was filed with the Oda police. The Oda Police and the Ghana National Fire Service were called and managed to retrieve the body from the lake. Authorities kept his body at the Oda Government Hospital for post-mortem and preservation.
