The manager of Feyenoord, Dennis te Kloese, appears to have shot down rumours that striker Santiago Gimenez may transfer to Tottenham this summer.
With 23 goals in 44 games for the Eredivisie champions this season, the Mexican international, who was born in Argentina, has captured the attention of many in Europe.
Although he joined Rotterdam from Cruz Azul in Mexico only last summer, he has had a stellar start to his European career.
He may now be on the verge of making another move, this time to Tottenham in the Premier League, who his current manager Arne Slot has been strongly associated with recently.
If his agency can secure a release from his contract, Mail Sport has revealed that Slot is poised to complete a move as soon as Wednesday. Gimenez reportedly has a number of suitors, including Newcastle and Brighton.
I don't think there is a higher challenge for a footballer than playing in the Champions League, so he should take advantage of it,' Te Kloese told Mexican station TV Azteca. "The wonderful justification [for him to stay] that we have is that next year we have qualified for the Champions League straight. "In football, you never know," but as of right now, there have been no formal approaches to the club, he is under a long-term deal, and there are no signs he may join another team. On the other hand, he is extremely clear about his objectives and the road to take, so you need to look out for people and stay near to him. He won't likely play for Feyenoord, in my opinion.
In what may be a three-pronged blow to Feyenoord, Te Kloese also stated that he too had been pursued by Spurs for their open sporting director post. This news comes as the north London side plots a move for Gimenez, with Slot's future possibly already decided. Gimenez would be giving up a spot in Europe's top club competition if he travelled to Spurs because the team is no longer eligible for the Champions League and may not even be in Europe. Gimenez only scored twice in his first 13 matches with Feyenoord, but towards the conclusion of the season, he scored a tonne of goals. In his final 11 Eredivisie games, the 22-year-old scored nine goals and provided one assist. He also scored three goals in four Dutch Cup games, including one in the final.
Te Kloese, who recruited the player from Cruz Azul, praised Gimenez's technical skills and ability to tune out the outside world when on the pitch.
What he possesses, according to him, is the ability to remain upbeat and to be unaffected by problems on the pitch. He can miss a chance, just like any striker, but the next time, he takes advantage of it and moves on without complaining.
I've always preferred forwards with a left-footed profile since he is highly agile and has a fantastic physique. Although physically, he still has room for improvement. Although he may develop physically more,
