Arsenal 'reignite their interest in £22m-rated Sanabria previously wanted'

Arsenal is looking to strengthen their attacking options for the upcoming 2023-24 season and may revisit their previous interest in Antonio Sanabria, a player once targeted by former manager Arsene Wenger.

Although Arsenal led the title race for a significant portion of the season, their bid to challenge Manchester City ultimately faltered in the closing stages. While the team as a whole did not struggle for goals, with several players reaching double figures, their top scorers, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard, only managed 15 goals each. With Gabriel Jesus sidelined due to a knee injury for a considerable period, manager Mikel Arteta is now eager to enhance their options in the central attacking role, in preparation for another potential title challenge.

Arsenal has shown interest in Torino forward Antonio Sanabria, who is reportedly available for a fee of around £21.6 million. This price is relatively affordable for a club of Arsenal's stature. Wenger had previously expressed interest in Sanabria as early as 2013 when the Paraguayan was part of Barcelona's renowned La Masia academy, along with Adama Traore. Arsenal's interest was reportedly reignited in 2015 when Sanabria moved to Roma. Italian outlet La Repubblica now reports that Arsenal has once again targeted the striker ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, with discussions for a £21.6 million transfer in the works.

However, Arsenal may face competition from Italian champions Napoli and Champions League semi-finalists AC Milan, both of whom are also interested in acquiring the services of Sanabria. While Sanabria may not be a prolific goal scorer, having scored 12 goals and provided three assists in the current Serie A season, he is entering his prime at the age of 27. Arteta may believe that the player is ready to take the next step and increase his attacking output.

Arsenal's participation in the Champions League next season adds further motivation for strengthening their squad depth, considering they currently have a relatively thin squad compared to their closest rivals, including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool. While Arsenal was also linked with a move for Dusan Vlahovic, who has struggled for form at Juventus this season with only 14 goals in 42 games, the Serie A club quickly dismissed any speculation of his departure.

In summary, Arsenal is targeting attacking reinforcements for the upcoming season, and Antonio Sanabria has emerged as a potential option. Despite facing competition from Napoli and AC Milan, Arsenal is willing to discuss a £21.6 million move for the Torino forward. While Sanabria may not be a prolific goal scorer, Arsenal believes he could increase his attacking output at the age of 27. The Gunners' return to the Champions League further highlights their need for squad depth, and they continue to explore options in the transfer market.
