Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as PresidentWontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has spoken about the alleged assault involving independent candidate Kwaku Duah during the election of Kumawu recently closed.

Chief Wontumi insisted that he had changed his tactics and allowed the police to handle the case. Meanwhile, Ernest Yaw Anim, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), won the Kumawu by-election held on May 23, 2023.
The vote, which initially seemed inconclusive, finally declared the winner. Ernest Yaw Anim got 15,264 votes, or 70.91% of the valid votes. Kwasi Amankwaa, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, got 3,723 votes, or17.29%. Kwaku Duah, an independent, won 2,478 votes, or 11.51%, while another independent of the same name managed to get 62 votes, or 0.29%.
Mr. Paul Agyemang, the Regional Returning Officer,announced the results, showingthat 34,790 registered voters,with 21,527 valid votes, or62.45%. There were 204 rejected votes.
Some happy NPP supporters, speaking to GhanaWeb ahead of the government announcement, expressed confidence that the NPP candidate will win by a largemargin. They explained that their decision not to questionthe independent candidateKwaku Duah was based on their investigation which showedthat he is not affiliated with the NPP party despite what he said earlier.
"He told us he was part of the NPP but we found out he was lying," some of his supporters told GhanaWeb.
