A lecturer in political science at the University of Education inWinneba, Dr Isaac Brako, said that an independent candidate in the local elections held in Kumawu, Kwaku Duah, has faltered on the way he can win the election.
According to him, the independent confirmed his confidence in getting a seat inhis job in the 2020 legislative elections forgetting that things are different when it comes to local elections. Kwaku Duah, before the election, was confident that he would contest the Kumawu seat of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) after his hard work in the 2020 election, where he defeated the MP dead by about3,000 votes. .
Some political observers also urged him to take a step by taking the seat from him during the elections. However, at the end of the election on TuesdayMay 23, Kwaku Duah had a terrible performance, getting only 2,478 votes, the NPP'sErnest Yaw Anim won with 15,264 votes.
Speaking about the election in an interview with Ghana Kasa on Kasapa 102.5FM/Agoo TV, Dr Isaac Brako said the candidate got his calculations wrong. "The individualcandidate should know that this is another election that may be different. He will not challengethe same person. He should know that he will be competingwith a new competitor who hasdifferent personality and interests. The debate announcing the election wasalso not good for him. He should not be too confident to win the election knowing that the Kumawu seat was always held by the NPP under the Fourth Republic.
The winner of the election, Yaw Anim, is expected to be sworn in as Speaker of Parliament when parliament resumes on June 6, 2023.
