The NPP lost heavily in theKumawu - Kwasi Pratt local elections

Insight Newspaper
Editor Kwesi Pratt Jr has a conflicting opinion on the victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the well held election in Kumawu.

The NPP's
Ernest Yaw Anim won the Kumawu local electionwith 15,264 votes representing 70.91% of the valid votes cast, while the NDC won 3,723 votesrepresenting 17.29%. The independent candidate, Kwaku Duah, who is an independent got 2,478 votes representing 11.51%, while Kwaku Duah who is the next independent candidate got 62 votes representing 0.29%.

According to Kwesi Pratt, the percentage recorded by the NPP cannot be described as a big victory after they lost about 10,000 votes in this local elections compared to the total votes in the 2020 elections. "Today I was watching the newsand they were all about winningthe land, I didn't see any victory in this election. What is the limit of the land in this election? If you do the research, it is clear that more than 10,000 people who voted in the last election did not vote in this election and the NPP won overwhelmingly,”he said.

He went on to explain that the third independent candidate inthe election, Kwaku Duah, was a force that contributed to the loss of the NPP. "In fact, anyonewho did not vote in this election, if you look at the numbers, they will be counted as NPP voters. If you analyzethe last election, you will ensurethat the independent gets his vote from NPP supporters and the winner gets his vote from NPP supporters. Then we will realize that more than 10,000 votes have been lost. Interestingly, the NDC got justover 1,000 votes, so if you analyze the system, that should tell you how well the NPP did in this election,” he added. KwesiPratt Jr speaks on Metro TV'sGood Morning Ghana and is watched by gmcnews.
