Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth had a conversation with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, where he obtained an exciting update about the club.

Arsenal have altered their approach in contract negotiations with winger Reiss Nelson, shifting from a long-term deal to a proposed short-term contract. Initially, it was reported that the Gunners had offered Nelson a four-year contract, with the possibility of extending for a fifth year. However, there were indications that Nelson may have already rejected this offer. Subsequently, Arsenal engaged in discussions with Nelson regarding a one-year deal, indicating a significant change in tactics.

This new offer from Arsenal could be seen as a strategic move to convince Nelson to stay for at least one more year, considering his reluctance to commit to a long-term contract. Nelson's main concern has been his lack of game time, having made only 17 appearances for Arsenal in the current season, contributing three goals and three assists. He has had limited opportunities to start matches, featuring in the starting lineup only five times, none of which were in the Premier League.

By proposing a one-year deal, Arsenal may be aiming to address Nelson's concerns about playing time. It provides the club with the opportunity to prove his involvement without requiring a commitment for an extended period. This approach could alleviate Nelson's hesitation in extending his stay at Arsenal.

If Nelson decides against extending his contract, he has attracted interest from several clubs in England, Italy, and France. AC Milan from Italy, Brighton in England, and Ligue 1 side Nice are reportedly among the clubs pursuing a potential free transfer move for the 23-year-old winger.

Throughout the season, Nelson has faced setbacks due to injuries, which have kept him sidelined for over three months. Even when available, he has often played second fiddle to Gabriel Martinelli, not being the preferred choice in the starting lineup. Despite this, Nelson has showcased his abilities with strong performances whenever called upon. Therefore, it is possible that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta genuinely intends to increase his involvement in the team for the upcoming season.

In summary, Arsenal has shifted their contract offer to Reiss Nelson from a long-term deal to a short-term contract proposal. This change could be an attempt to address Nelson's concerns about playing time, as he has been hesitant to commit for an extended period. While negotiations are ongoing, Nelson has garnered interest from other clubs, presenting potential alternatives for his future. Nonetheless, Arteta's intentions to increase Nelson's involvement suggest that he may still have a role to play at Arsenal in the upcoming season.
