Erik ten Hag has cautioned that if the money from a takeover isn't spent in "a smart way," Manchester United could regress like Chelsea.

When the Glazer family decides whether to sell to Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Ten Hag will have more purchasing power.

Chelsea, meanwhile, has struggled ever since Todd Boehly's group paid £4.25 billion to buy out Roman Abramovich, despite spending nearly £600 million on new players.

The Londoners are currently in 12th place heading into their match against United at Old Trafford tonight (Thurs), where Ten Hag's team is hoping to qualify for the Champions League.

Ten Hag responded, "Absolutely, sure. Chelsea are an example of how a takeover may generate problems. Money only works when there is a strategy behind it—and the appropriate strategy at that.

Let's imagine that at this time, the finest players, managers, and financial resources are all concentrated in the UK. That results in a fantastic competition that is both challenging and difficult.

"You must take the proper actions. Money is a possibility, but it must be spent wisely. Additionally, you need a plan since without one, the money won't function.

Prior to playing Manchester City in the FA Cup final, United has to finish in the top four with one point from its remaining home games against Chelsea and Fulham.

In his first season, Ten Hag won the Carabao Cup, and he thinks United are moving in the right direction. But he cautioned that many of the club's competitors were planning to strengthen as well, so the team needed to make the correct choices when it came to new players in the summer to stay on an upward curve.

I believe we are moving in the right direction, but we can still benefit from this season, he continued. "After the season, we must assess that and draw the appropriate inferences for the future, and that is exactly what we will do."

We currently understand, for example, the league's balance, but things could change during the summer.

We want to participate in the Champions League and battle against the best. It's difficult to finish in the top four in the Premier League. We are one of the many who are vying for it and believe we should be in.

"First, we need to finish the job and win the game on Thursday." In a project, we are. Despite having one trophy, we still want more.

We are still traveling. Although we believe we are moving in the right path, good is never sufficient. After news sources in France suggested that Neymar might join United, Ten Hag mischievously refused to rule out a bid for the Paris Saint-Germain sensation.

The Dutchman grinned, "We will let you know when we have news."

He also declined to comment on claims that 115 allegations of Premier League financial rule violations have tarnished Manchester City's title triumph.

Ten Hag stated, "It is not about me in this moment or any moment to discuss that or pass judgment." 'Let them do their thing; this is an investigation; we will find out.'
