Man Utd target Kounde
According to reports, La Liga giants Barcelona have 'agreeed' to sell Jules Kounde this summer and Man Utd have 'first interest' in him.
The 24-year-old has had an excellent time at Bordeaux and Sevilla. He was closely linked with Chelsea before moving to Barcelona last summer.
Kounde has mainly played at centre-back in previous seasons, but most of his appearances for Barcelona this season have been at right-back. He started 36 games in all competitions in the 2022/23 season. The defender has helped Barcelona win La Liga quickly this season when they are currently 13 points ahead of Atletico Madrid.
But if Spanish store Nacional is to be believed, Kounde is not stable in Barcelona. They "will have to sell to reduce their wage bill" and the Frenchman "is not satisfied with the position of full-back".
Mateu Alemany said this "internal matter" would be "resolved internally", but Koundé "could leave this summer to join another team that offers the conditions he wants".
Man Utd are the team 'first interested' in Kounde and a move to Old Trafford is 'makes the most sense'. Erik ten Hag 'urgently' wants to sign a new centre-back and the Red Devils 'will have the necessary 80m that Joan Laporta is asking for to start negotiations'.
The report suggests that Man Utd could face competition from Chelsea if they choose to 'present' a new offer for the defender.
A separate report from 90min says that Barcelona are 'shocked' by Kounde's 'transfer plans'. They are said to be "surprised by his sudden desire to leave the club just a year after joining Sevilla". They add. '90min understands that Barcelona are surprised by this development and not impressed with Kounde.
"Barca's financial difficulties and the need to accommodate La Liga's viable plans mean they may have to sell key players to attract top transfer targets." Kounde is not someone who is said to have been slashed, but his sudden change could change the status of the club.
Man Utd need to strengthen this summer as Dwight Yorke believes Ten Hag will face a title challenge next season.
“We have to get closer to Man City and finish second. And if we're a little closer, there's the possibility of a lead. I think it will be very realistic,” Yorke told TEAMtalk.
“And, you know, I say [it's] not fun either. But that's what you expect at Man Utd. That's the name of the game.
"He [Ten Hag] is at a big club and the expectations are huge. And when you start winning, they want more. And that will be the case next season.
