Refuse your gratia from May 2023 - Nana Akomea challenges Mahama
Nana Akomea, the chairman of the State Transport Corporation (STC), has challenged former president John Dramani Mahama, urging him to stop accepting ex gratia payments from the state, from May 2023 this year.
Nana Akomea emphasized that John Mahama should follow the example of Togbe Afede, theformer chairman of the Council of State, who voluntarily returned him ex-gratia to the government. Speaking on Kokrokoo Peace FM on May 21, 2023, the former National Media Director of the NPP said he will remain in his position on pro bono eradication when he returns to power.
“Some people are arguing withPresident Mahama, if you want to cancel the ex-gratia, bring back the people you took... sofor you let us take it as theiradvice is meaningless because itis your money.don't spend it...how rude he insults people, says they are stupid, let themknow better. He is still insulting them.
"When people share their opinions and you don't agree with them, you insult them."
He added: “Let me give him achallenge, just one challenge; Togbe Afede said that for him, he did not believe in ex-gratia as a member of the Council of State, what did he do? ex-gratia they gave him, he returned to the government... when he returned the money to the government, President Mahama praised him for it, saying that he is a man of principles... whichmeans that Togbe Afede has principles in returning ex- gratia.
"So, you, President Mahama, today, if you are saying that you do not believe in ex-gratia, those that you received, we know that you spent them, so we cannot say that you willbring .. My challenge to him is that those he will hire in themonth of May, he should nottake them, stop accepting ex-gratias, as Togbe Afede has said, and give him back, he will follow. one principle," he said. John Dramani Mahama has promised to scrap ex-gratia for civil servants if they are re-elected in the 2024 general elections.
Mahama served as thePresident of Ghana from 2012 to 2016 before Akufo-Addo defeated him in the 2016 presidential election. He did not stand against Akufo-Addo again in the 2020 elections; However,he was re-elected as the standard bearer of the NDC and said he was confident that he would win in 2024 and bring about the changes he felt the country needed
