NPP leaders attack Assin North, ready for another election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gearing up to hold another election in Assin North afterseveral local leaders have arrived in the constituency.

It
comes after the Supreme Court on May 17 ordered the parliament to revoke James Gyakye Quayson's name as a member of parliament. In its ruling, the High Court barred Mr Quayson from serving as an MP, saying he was disqualified from running in the 2020 election.

A
ruling party has declared its support for the upcoming elections, pending the decision of the Electoral Commission onthe organization of local elections in the region.

Mr
Quayson is currently facing five charges, including fraud bya public servant (contrary to Section 251(b) of the Crimes Act 1960, Act 29), forgery of a passport or certificate(contrary to Section 15(1)(b) ) of passports. and Travel Certificates, 1967, NLCD 155), Willfully making a false legal declaration (contrary to the Legal Declaration Act, 1971, Act 389), Conspiracy (under section 210 (1) of the Offenses Act ,1960, Act 29), and false declaration to a company (contrary to section 248 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 1960, Act 29). With so much money at stake, the two leaders areexpected to fight hard to winthe seat.

The NPP, in particular, appears to be fighting the battle well, as the Secretary General Justin Kodua Frimpong and National Organizer Henry Nana Boakyearrived in Assin North yesterday ahead of the election,as reported by Daily Guide newspaper.
