Damongo: NEDCo restarts St. Anne's Hospital's electricity

After being cut off from electricity for approximately a week due to a GH4 million debt, the Northern Electricity Company (NEDCo) has now brought power back to the St. Anne's Hospital in Damongo in the Savannah Region.

Following the involvement of the Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, and the Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril, electricity was eventually restored to the facility.

In an interview, Mr. Jibril stated that the Regional Coordinating Council will pay a portion of the debt on the hospital's behalf with the assistance of the MP.

"I have requested a meeting in my office this afternoon with the regional health directorate, the hospital management, and NEDCo so that we can determine the best course of action," he remarked.

Following NEDCo's decision to cut off power to the hospital, two infants died, and three more are in severe condition.

According to reports, the hospital's inability to check for appropriate blood to transfuse the neonates with caused their deaths.

NEDCo authorities turned off the hospital's power supply on Tuesday, May 2, due to a GH4 million debt, but Mr. Muhazu Jibril's intervention allowed it to be restored.

But last week, the power distribution company unplugged the facility for a second time because the hospital was unable to pay the outstanding amount.

The development resulted in the suspension of outpatient and administrative services, which had an impact on the provision of healthcare in the area.

The Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) is a member of the hospital. The government was in charge of paying the hospital's electrical expenses, according to hospital authorities.

The institution had been accumulating debt for some time since it hadn't been paying its obligations.

The Daily Graphic said that the Out-Patient Department, which had registered at least 80 people each day, is now completely empty.
