Vinícius Júnior Speaks Out Against Racism Ahead of Black Awareness Day

Real Madrid and Brazil forward Vinícius Júnior has once again taken a firm stand against racism in football, sharing his experiences and hopes for change in a candid interview with CBF TV, as reported by Diario AS. The conversation comes ahead of Black Awareness Day on November 20, a significant occasion for the winger, who has been vocal about the ongoing fight against racial discrimination.

Holding Offenders Accountable

Reflecting on the progress made in addressing racism, Vinícius highlighted recent successes in bringing offenders to justice.

“In the last three months, we have already managed to put three or four people in jail and make them pay for the crime they committed. We are on the right track,” he shared.

While acknowledging the strides made, he also pointed out the persistent challenges he faces, particularly in Spain.

“I play in Spain, where I suffered a lot and still suffer sometimes, but of course, it is less now with the help of all the clubs and all the people working hard to fight racism, like the CBF is doing,” he said.

A Collective Fight

Vinícius has long been at the forefront of the fight against racism, using his platform to urge football authorities and the broader community to act. He emphasized that this battle requires a unified effort.

“I can’t fight all this alone. I know how important I am, but I always say it’s everybody’s fight. I know my strength and visibility: I can speak for all those people who don’t have it, or who are afraid, or who go through things and aren’t always believed,” he remarked.

The 23-year-old praised the collaborative efforts of organizations like FIFA and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), as well as players worldwide, in working towards a future with fewer instances of discrimination.

“Black people have suffered for a long time, and the time has come when all this has to end. So FIFA, which is a very strong body, together with the CBF, with all the players, have the strength to fight,” he added.

Hope for the Future

Vinícius expressed optimism about creating a more inclusive environment for future generations.

“Let’s move forward together, firm and strong, so that children in the future can have a better life,” he stated.

He also reflected on the challenges he has faced throughout his life, noting how those experiences have shaped his resilience. Growing up in a dangerous environment and rising through Flamengo’s ranks at just 16, he has faced and overcome significant pressures.

“I have lived with pressure since I was born because I came from a very dangerous place, where I suffered a lot, and going through the ranks of Flamengo was also a big challenge,” he said.

Determination with Brazil

For Vinícius, the challenges persist on the international stage, but they fuel his determination to succeed with the Brazil national team.

“It’s no different with the national team. I have gone through many ups and downs, always wanting to develop myself to do great things for our country,” he explained.

In conclusion, Vinícius reaffirmed his commitment to fighting racism and excelling in his footballing career. His words serve as a powerful reminder of the ongoing work needed to eradicate discrimination while inspiring others to join the fight.
