Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a PSG star will be allowed to leave this summer and Chelsea have become one of two clubs to have taken the first steps towards a move, according to reports.

The shape and size of Chelsea's next summer transfer window will largely depend on who and how much money they can get off the books.

The Evening Standard has listed no less than 15 first-team members being cut. An update later listed the top seven stars that the Blues hope to eliminate by June 30.

The significance of this specific date is when the club's accounts for 2022/23 must be filed. Any sales made after this date will be recorded in the books for 2023/24.

If Chelsea can remove fat from their squad, they will need a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and striker.

As for the addition of the midfielder, many reports point to PSG's Argentina international, Leandro Paredes.

The 28-year-old central midfielder is known to Pochettino not only because he is Argentine but also because of his time at PSG. Pochettino is in charge of Paris from 2021 to 22. Paredes has been loaned out to Juventus for the current season, although a below-average season would ensure a purchase option worth around 20 million euros would not be activated.

As such, Paredes will return to PSG at the end of the season, but probably not for long.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that he and Argentina teammate Angel Di Maria will be 'leaving' Turin this summer.

Di Maria will become a free agent, while Paredes still has a year left on his contract, which means a transfer fee will be charged.

Romano added that Paredes is "shopping" and "will be allowed to leave" Paris. Chelsea initiate the transfer of Paredes

That's where Chelsea come in, with Argentine journalist Martin Arevalo claiming the Blues and Atletico Madrid are evaluating a move.

As quoted by Goal, Chelsea have 'established contact' with Paredes' side as they find out if a summer push is possible. Atleti has apparently taken the same step.

No transfer fee was quoted, although it stands to reason that PSG would ask for something similar to the €20m option included in Juventus' loan deal. 20 million euros is just £17.3 million at current exchange rates. A Paredes move could become all the more important for Chelsea and Pochettino as they wait to see what happens to their many current picks.

Mason Mount looks set to leave and his wish is to join Man Utd. Mateo Kovacic is sought after by Man City in case they lose Ilkay Gundogan to the free company.

N'Golo Kante could also leave, with the French veteran expiring this summer. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is currently in talks to join AC Milan.
