Aaron Wan-Bissaka is unlikely to start a game before Christmas but is now Manchester United's number one choice right-back.
Ten Hag praises Wan-Bissaka
Erik ten Hag has noted Aaron Wan-Bissaka's marked improvement over the season, saying he is one of many Manchester United players who have enhanced their play.
Wan-Bissaka played just four minutes before the World Cup, with Diogo Dalot locking in at right-back, playing every game he had against Qatar.
Wan-Bissaka made his debut under Ten Hag as the season went on, providing an assist in a 2-0 League Cup win over Burnley just before Christmas.
Wan-Bissaka has made steady starts since then and is now considered to be ahead of Dalot in the ranking order thanks to a string of classy performances. The 25-year-old has 12 months left on his contract but has the option to extend it for a further year.
United's figures have been impressive with Wan-Bissaka's performances since Christmas and manager Ten Hag is one of them. "He has improved a lot, like many players have improved during the season," Ten Hag told club media.
"It's one of the jobs of the manager and the coaching staff, to get there [to improve the players] and we're really happy about that, that the players are developing.
“Teamwork is always the foundation and if the players understand that, if they can put their egos aside, then you will see the team grow and improve. "And then in the team's growth, individuals are making a lot of progress and Aaron is definitely one of them."
Despite being in good form, Wan-Bissaka's future at Old Trafford is unclear. United have been in talks with Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who has had nine goals and 11 assists in midfield this season.
The Red Devils are also hoping they can tie Dalot to a new long-term deal amid interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Roma.
