The government must have transparency and honesty in its spending - Dr. Asa Asante

Dr Kwame Asah Asante UG
Political scientist and lecturer at the University of Ghana, DrKwame Asa Asante

political scientist and seniorlecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asa Asante has called on the government tobe honest and fair on its spending following President Akufo-Addo's revelation that the country will return to the international capital market.soon to borrow money.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta emphasized that Ghana is first involved in the budget process, saying that Ghana will not need to quickly
return to the international capital market to borrow money. Speaking at the Qatar-Africa Economic Forum in Doha, President AKufo-Addo said that althoughhis government is not in a hurryto return to the international market, it is sensible to take advantage of the currentmarket and save money.

"We
have committed ourselves to be able to return to the international market which was our source of income during the first three or four years of our government," the president said. said, adding: "It's not fastbut it's clear why not. take the opportunity of global financial security, that makes a lot of sense to me. We will try as much as possible to maintain the required training in the most important conditions for a successful program.

Ghana received $604 millionfrom the International Monetary Fund as the first partof its bailout package.

In this regard,
in an interview with Morning Starr on Starr FM, Dr. Asa Asante told the Akufo-Addo led government to be open in the use of public funds, because honesty and truthfulness are essential forgood governance. "If you rule over people, you should be honest, you should be honest and truthful about what you say. Let's look at the issue of spending, people People have repeatedly said that government spending is too high in some areas. Look at the issue of the appointment of ministers and the extent of government, all advice hasfallen on deaf ears, thegovernment will not listen and continues to do bad things that have reached us here. I don'tknow if this time thegovernment will have the courage to do what it wants to do. Because the IMF, once they come to your country and have a relationship with you, two things they put forward. One, arrow, and two, warning. The public is talking about it, but thegovernment is firm. But this time, the government has no other option but to do the IMF because otherwise there are restrictions.

“...There
are unnecessary expenses that we encounter in this country, which are wasted elsewhere. The medical research is beneficial to give us information about what is happening. I think thegovernment must be made up and connect these space and connect to these gaps if we want to work as part of Imf's situation, "added Dr. ER.
