Erik ten Hag did not name Marcus Rashford in his starting line-up for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Chelsea, it has been claimed.

The England striker is just one goal away from becoming the first United player to turn 30 in all competitions in a single season since Robin Van Persie 10 years ago.

However, Rashford missed the Old Trafford club's recent win over Wolverhampton Wanderers with a leg injury he sustained against West Ham on May 7.

The 25-year-old then looked set to return to United's starting line-up against Bournemouth last weekend, but fell ill again.

However, United won both games without the striker, who returned to full training at Carrington on Tuesday. Ten Hag's side are currently in the enviable position of needing just one point from the last two games of the season to qualify for the Champions League.

However, Rashford will not start, according to United Stand.

Elsewhere, United remain without Lisandro Martinez and Marcel Sabitzer, while Phil Jones, Tom Heaton and Donny van de Beek are also absent.

Jürgen Klopp may have to return to the drawing board at Mason Mount, but the 'perfect' alternative may already be in sight.

As the season draws to a close, attention will soon turn to the summer transfer market and it is clear that Liverpool are likely to be busy in the coming months. However, in what could prove to be a blow to Jürgen Klopp's plans, a target that may have determined his future lies elsewhere.

The Reds abandoned a potential deal for Jude Bellingham in April when Anfield's recruitment managers decided to pursue several new signings, as opposed to a trademark deal. Almost two months on, a flurry of names have been mooted as potential alternatives to the British superstar, but no deal has yet been agreed. What is certain is that Liverpool's squad will likely be very different at the start of next season and one would expect the club to have learned a lesson from last summer's disorganization. There will be no room for error this time around as the Red Devils look to bounce back from a somewhat disappointing season.

With the transfer window approaching, it is clear that Klopp and his associates will have no shortage of potential options to fill the gaps in Liverpool's squad. Here's Liverpool.com's verdict on the transfer rumors swirling around the Red Devils today.

Mason Mountain (Chelsea)

One player who has been closely linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months is Chelsea's Mason Mount, with the 24-year-old currently embroiled in a contract negotiation with the Stamford Bridge club. However, what could be a major blow to Klopp's plans this summer, it looks like he is preparing to turn down offers from Liverpool.

Mount is being sought by a host of Europe's elite clubs ahead of this summer, with the England international's current contract set to expire in 2024 and Chelsea likely to need to balance the books after spending. big since Todd Boehly arrived. According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Manchester United can win the race for the midfielder against fellow country rivals Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Wherever you are in the world - in the US, UK or beyond - you don't want to miss a thing. Speaking to Sky Sports News, the reporter explained that Mount has now shown his preference for a move to Old Trafford. I said:

"Other clubs are aware of his preferences and there will be talks between Manchester United and Chelsea in the near future.

"But nothing is final, there is no decision on where he will end up. But it will accelerate as the domestic season draws to a close."

Liverpool.com says:

Without a doubt, missing out on Mason Mount will be a blow for Liverpool as the England star looks set to come to Klopp. That said, there are other options on the market and it is felt the Red Devils will simply turn to other targets if they feel the Chelsea star is uncertain about leaving.
