Kurt Okraku is confident he will win a second term as GFA president
Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku is confident that he will be re-elected for a second termwhen the FA goes to the polls in October.
Okraku was elected FA president in October 2019, after three elections and only five months into his current tenure. Ghana's national team has achieved mixed results under his stewardship, with the Black Stars achieving great success - finishing last at AFCON 2021 and the 2022 World Cup.
And when the Starlets lifted the AFCON u-20 in 2021, they did not qualify for the next edition and defended their title. "Football will speak as it happens in 2019," Okraku told Super Sport.
"What I know for sure is that we served football to the best of our abilities. We were told in class that there are 24 hours in a day, but football learned that there are more than 24 hours in a day.
"And we worked more than 24 hours a day."
In 2019, Okraku got 44 votes in the first ballot. Former FA vice president George Afriyie got 40 votes, while Kotoko presidentNana Yaw Amponsah got 27.
The vote went into the second round, where Okraku missed the required 50% plus one by just two votes after getting 59. George Afriyie got 43 votesbefore exiting in the mandatorythird round.
Okraku entered the fray as the only candidate and received the necessary 50% plus one, with 93 votes.
