Liverpool's place in the Europa League has been confirmed after Manchester United clinched their last Champions League spot and Jurgen Klopp's men could face a nightmare draw.

United's 4-1 win over Chelsea confirmed Erik ten Hag's side have a place in the Champions League and also cost rivals Liverpool a season in Europe's second division.

Liverpool, who are ending their dismal season without a title, are expected to make major changes to their squad this summer as they prepare for a full football season. all on Thursday night.

And when things settle down, the Merseyside club could face a nightmare draw in the Europa League.

How did the Europa League draw go? The Europa League begins with a group stage of 32 teams, divided into eight groups of four. Clubs from the same association cannot play against each other.

The draw to determine the teams entering each group is based on the teams' performances in UEFA competitions.

First, the teams are divided into four ranking groups, and each group will have one team from each group.

Group 1 contains the UEFA Conference League winners, while the other teams in each group are determined by coefficients. Liverpool's Potential Nightmare Draw

Liverpool will be in Group 1, potentially joining the likes of Juventus, Roma, Ajax, Villarreal, Leverkusen, Sporting and one from West Ham or Fiorentina into the Conference League final on June 7.

For now, Group 2 could include PSV, Olympiakos, Real Betis, Marseille, Monaco, Ferencvaros, Qarabag and Solvan Bratislava, although some of these teams are yet to claim their place in the tournament.

Pots 3 and 4 are difficult to predict at this early stage.

However, if all domestic leagues end at this stage, Liverpool could be in the same group as PSV Eindhoven, Freiburg and Maccabi Haifa. Such a draw would include tough matches against two of the competition's highest-rated teams, as well as a 6,600-mile round trip to Israel. With that in mind, Liverpool could be in the same group as Azerbaijan's Qarabag, Bulgaria's Ludogorets Razgrad and once again Maccabi Haifa.

While each of these matches Liverpool can win, they include nightmarish trips that are sure to take a toll on their domestic form.
