Liverpool will miss out on signing Mason Mount if the Chelsea forward chooses to join Manchester United.
Liverpool may have to get past Chelsea's Conor Gallagher if they miss out on signing Blues team-mate Mason Mount this summer. The Red Devils are said to be keen to land on Mount but could miss out on the England star as Manchester United appear to have taken the lead in the race for his signature.
Last month, The Independent reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has identified Gallagher as a summer transfer target as he tries to improve his midfield. The Merseyside team have struggled in the central area this season as midfielders Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson have all failed to find their best form throughout the season. Chelsea have spent huge sums on signings since Todd Boehly bought the club a year ago. And they are now under pressure to offload some of their stars to ensure they meet Financial Fair Play requirements.
Gallagher has started less than half of the Blues' Premier League appearances this season and has scored just three goals and provided one assist. But his talent and high energy could make him an ideal candidate for Klopp's team.

Liverpool could soon have a local player quota problem as James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to leave the club when their contracts expire this summer. And Caoimhin Kelleher and Nat Phillips have also been asked to follow them out of Anfield.
The Red Devils only added 24 players to their Premier League squad for the second half of the season as they only had seven home-grown players instead of the eight needed to sign up a full 25-man squad. So Klopp will certainly be keen to target players who fit the local criteria when this summer's transfer window opens.

Gallagher has proven himself in the Premier League after scoring eight goals and three assists during a successful loan spell with Crystal Palace last season. The 23-year-old also made his England debut in a 10-0 win over San Marino in a World Cup qualifier. And he has 5 more caps for the Three Lions.
If Klopp pursues Gallagher, he hopes the player can reach the heights Mount has reached for Chelsea in recent seasons. Mount has made almost 200 appearances for the west London giants and helped the club win the Champions League in 2021 and the Club World Cup in 2022. However, according to The Athletic, the 24-year-old is currently towards a move to Old Trafford .
