After being carried off during the first half of Thursday's Premier League match against Chelsea, Manchester United winger Antony is questionable for the FA Cup final against Manchester City next month.
After joining United for 85 million from Ajax last summer, Antony has been a fixture for Erik ten Hag's team when healthy and available.
Since going to England, the 23-year-old has been inconsistent, but he has shown real promise and will end the Premier League season with six direct goal involvements.
When he was hurt on a collision with Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, it was a classic Antony run. The Brazilian had used a trick to advance the ball, but Chalobah's fair tackle caused his ankle to appear to get hooked underneath Chalobah's leg.
Antony seems to recognize the issue right away. He swiftly motioned to the United bench while gripping his right ankle, then slammed the ground in anger, which is typically a sign that a player is indeed hurt.
When medical personnel arrived on the field, Antony was given extensive care before being taken away on a stretcher.
The likelihood of fully recovering in time to play in United's final Premier League match of the season against Fulham on Sunday appears to be exceedingly remote given how serious the degree of response and caution was. Then, one week later, is the Wembley FA Cup final.
Marcus Rashford started the match against Chelsea on the bench. He would return to the starting lineup for the championship game, but Jadon Sancho, who furthered his claim with a deft assist for Anthony Martial's first-half goal, would likely take his position if Antony is unable to play.
After a concerning injury, Antony may not play in the FA Cup final.
While Antony has seen a few injury setbacks in his rookie campaign, when healthy, he has typically been a consistent starter for United. Even though he has occasionally lacked consistency, the 23-year-old has managed to score a solid eight goals across all competitions and has displayed a lot of potential.
