"You are the best," PSG phenom Kylian Mbappe said to Lionel Messi after he won the FIFA Men's Player of the Year award.

Kylian Mbappe surprised fans by praising Lionel Messi as the best player in the world after the Argentine won The Best FIFA Men's Player award earlier this year. In an Instagram post, Mbappe congratulated his PSG teammate, referring to him as "#TheBest" and acknowledging Messi's remarkable achievement of winning the award for the second time in four years. This was a notable departure for Mbappe, who was previously seen as a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.

Both Messi and Mbappe had exceptional years, both with PSG and their national teams. They clinched the Ligue 1 title with PSG, with Mbappe claiming his fourth consecutive Golden Boot by scoring an impressive 28 goals. Messi, on the other hand, led Argentina to a historic World Cup victory, ending a 36-year drought and earning his second Golden Ball in the process. His contribution included seven goals and three assists, including a brace in the final.

During the World Cup in Qatar, Mbappe showcased his incredible form, netting eight goals and winning the Golden Boot. Although he became the second player ever to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, he found himself on the losing side, which was undoubtedly disappointing.

Despite Mbappe's newfound admiration for Messi, his long-standing idol has been Cristiano Ronaldo. Both his father and former teammate Abdou Diallo have previously confirmed Mbappe's admiration for the Portuguese superstar. Mbappe's father mentioned in 2016 that his son was a Real Madrid fan and spent hours watching Ronaldo videos online. Diallo echoed this sentiment in December of the previous year, emphasizing that Ronaldo was "literally everything" to Mbappe.

Mbappe has faced Ronaldo four times throughout his career, encountering him in the Champions League Round of 16 during the 2017-18 season.

Unfortunately, Mbappe's PSG team was eliminated, losing 5-2 on aggregate. When representing France, Mbappe has played against Ronaldo twice, with both matches resulting in draws. Ronaldo has scored five goals in these encounters, while Mbappe has yet to find the back of the net.

On the other hand, Mbappe has shared the pitch with Messi on 65 occasions, and together, they have been involved in scoring on 33 occasions.

Overall, Mbappe's acknowledgment of Messi's greatness and his transition from a Ronaldo fan to recognizing the Argentine as the best player in the world reflects the mutual respect and admiration among football's top talents.
