Chelsea fans ignored Frank Lampard when he joked that after this weekend the struggling Blues will be the 'new coach' problem.

Since the 44-year-old took over as caretaker manager in April, the Blues have won once, drawn once and lost a total of eight games.

Lampard has failed to stop the tide at Stamford Bridge after inheriting the ruins of Graham Potter's reign and will lead the club to its worst league result since 1996 as he concludes the 2022/ 23 this weekend.

Their last game of the Premier League season was against Eddie Howe's Newcastle United and the Blues are on track to set some of the lowest Premier League records ever.

In his pre-match press conference, Lampard declined to comment on whether new manager Mauricio Pochettino has been the toughest job of any manager before him.

lamard said:

"I do not know. It's a good title but I don't know, remains to be seen.

“I cannot jump into the future. I think it's a great job because it's Chelsea's job and when I took it the first time I came I could have gotten the job because a lot of top managers didn't want the job.

"I know it because of the truth," he added. "That's a big part of that."

The caretaker manager later said he "wishes the new manager good luck", but after this weekend's game against the Magpies, the club is no longer his prerogative. I said:

"But I like the process and I love coming here and I wish the new manager the best of luck. I don't know. That's his problem."

Lampard will leave Chelsea this summer.

After his comment, the journalists present at the press conference burst into laughter. However, many social media users did not see Lampard's affection very much. One disgruntled fan took to Twitter and wrote:

“Too bad it turned out like this… Will also be a club legend. But perhaps his reputation is not high anymore.

Another commented:

"Every time he speaks, he ruins his reputation at the club."

The third said:

"Sorry, but I don't think he's going to take the advice of one of the worst managers in Premier League history."

Elsewhere, Lampard offered another piece of advice to whoever takes over at Stamford Bridge next.

Speaking after Chelsea's 4-1 loss to Manchester United, he said:

"It's been a bad year for the club. It's important that you know how it improves.

"It needs rebuilding, the club will grow this summer in terms of squads. Everything has to improve to reach the level.

Pochettino, 51, is tipped to take the top job but the club have yet to officially confirm his appointment.
