Lampard's home game against fourth-placed Newcastle on Sunday might be his final at Stamford Bridge, where he was revered by Chelsea supporters as the heart and soul of the club's midfield during a trophy-laden 13-year playing career - before a less successful first time as manager from 2019 to 2021.
I don't want to sound cheesy, but this does not seem like a farewell. "I appreciate it; it'll be the end of the season and the end of my time here, but normally when you leave a club, you don't have a last hurrah as a manager," Lampard told reporters.
"It's great if you come in one day and go the next... I'm not very sentimental about it, but I certainly appreciate the fans' support on Sunday.
"More than anything, I'd like to give them a performance that they can take away for the summer and feel a little more positive about."
According to British media, Chelsea have agreed to hire former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager beginning next season.
When asked if his successor will inherit the most difficult job a Chelsea manager has faced in the previous 20 years, Lampard replied, "It's a good headline, but I don't know."
