Liverpool could be in danger of their midfield transfer options shrinking with two deals unlikely to be a problem for Jurgen Klopp. Chelsea can be blamed in either case, with Manuel Ugarte and Conor Gallagher each moving closer to clarifying the club's future.
The Red Devils are one of several parties that have watched Sporting Lisbon star Ugarte. Scouts were said to have been on hand to watch him earlier this month, but so far there has been no sign that Liverpool are pressing to meet their £52m bid. It emerged this week that Paris Saint-Germain had submitted an offer equivalent to Ugarte's release clause, but transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claims the nature of the payment terms left the door open for Chelsea to accept. Their offer was revealed.
Either way, Anfield now looks like an unlikely destination for the 22-year-old, who is building a stellar reputation in Europe as a talented and promising midfielder. .

Like a dust-biting option, Klopp may also have to drop another midfielder off his wish list. Gallagher has frequently been on the bench at Chelsea this season, but new manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to have made his feelings clear.
With the 23-year-old threatened to leave the summer transfer window, who is said to have admirers at Anfield, the Evening Standard claim Pochettino has replied to Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly that he wants Gallagher stay in West London. . The Blues youth product has generally been out of action after a glittering loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, but he looks set to be given another season to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge. .
Midfield is seen as Klopp's priority recruitment area this summer with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita and Arthur Melo all leaving the club. Alexis Mac Allister is rumored to be a top target, with reports suggesting a £70million deal could have been agreed behind the scenes.

Liverpool's new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is likely to have his own ideas on how to improve the Reds squad. The 59-year-old's area of ??expertise is the Bundesliga, and a host of talented players have been raised as potential targets. Bayern Munich youngster Ryan Gravenberch, Borussia Monchengladbach's Florian Neuhaus, Eintracht Frankfurt star Daichi Kamada and RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol had all been linked with Merseyside prior to Schmadtke's arrival.
