Arsenal are preparing a surprise move to sign former Barcelona winger, ?Malcom this summer, according to a new report.

The Gunners have prioritized increasing depth in wide areas during the recent January transfer window, with Mykhailo Mudryk being one of their top targets.

However, Shakhtar Donetsk eventually sold the winger to Chelsea for up to £89m.

The Gunners turned their attention elsewhere and brought in Leandro Trossard from Brighton before the January transfer window closed. The Belgian has provided eight assists in 19 appearances for Arsenal since his arrival. Advertisement

Mikel Arteta's side are relatively well supplied across large areas, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli being two of Arsenal's key players this season. Reiss Nelson can also play on either wing, with The Athletic reporting that he will sign a four-year contract to stay with the Gunners.

But, according to a new report, Arsenal are still looking for more options to play on the wing - and possibly a switch to a former Barcelona player.

According to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast, Arsenal are currently considering signing Malcom, who currently plays for Zenit Saint Petersburg.

The 26-year-old has scored an impressive 23 goals in just 27 appearances in the Russian Premier League, while Zenit has won the title with a few games to spare. Bale explained:

"He's had a great season for Zenit. He's got 30 goals in total. And he has some really big clubs who have been impressed with his progress.

“PSG, ??as well as Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle, we are told, have also taken notice.

"It's a difficult situation. Teams will have to buy him, he is also owned by a Brazilian businessman, but keep an eye on this team. Malcom is truly a wanted man."

His goalscoring numbers at Zenit stand in stark contrast to those at former club Barcelona, ??where he struggled to get in shape after completing a €41m move. from Bordeaux in 2018.

He made just 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing two assists, before moving to Russia in the summer of 2019.

90 Minutes claim Zenit will demand more than the fee they paid to sign Malcom to part ways with the Brazilian winger, and that he is currently under contract with the club until 2027.
