Kumawu MP criticized Nana B for sharing gari, rice and eggs to buy votes

It can be recalled that the National Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, denied theallegations that people seen in the viral video were donating things like rice, eggs and other goods to make the electorate has influence. during the Kumawu election, saying it was a political campaign by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, Ernest Yaw Anim, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Sekyere Kumawu Constituency in Ashanti Region, contradicted Nana B's statement. He admitted that members of theNPP in Kumawu distributedrice, eggs and other items to thevoters. Speaking on Oyerepa TV, Yaw Anim spoke on the allegation that he won the Kumawu election through questionable means. He revealed that the people seen in the viral video were NPP activists in Kumawu who decided to give the gift as a Mother's Day gift on his behalf. According to him, they acted because of their love for him atthe party. “I saw the viral video and I checked the people in the video, and I found out that those are NPP teachers in Kumawu, they did this because of their love for me in the party. Therefore, on Mother's Day, they decided to give a gift in my name. So it's a gift for Mother's Day. So what's wrong with that? Today, when people buy their mother a car, they take picturesand share them on social media. This is not for social media. It is unfortunate that some ill-intentioned people removedthe video just to accuse me of buying votes,” he explained. Nana B expressed disbelief at the videos, pointing out that they show isolated situations in which people are given a small amount of rice and given to one person to wear clothes. He explained that the NPP is not involved in such projects and said that the way the party produces things like rice will involve a systematic and participatory process. “I saw a video being shared where people take plastic bags andrice and film themselves sharing it with people...are you serious? Look, New Patriotic Party, we have nothing to do with this.

"For
someone to go somewhere and distribute rice, if we really want to share rice, maybe rice can be a place where there will be many people, rice will be given to him, for that, you havecan say that we are. portion ofrice. But for this video of a man opening the front of his car with a small polythene bag containing rice and giving it to one person...the political tyranny of a political opponent, we have passed this stage. "Also, two people were painting for themselves and showing an old lady a piece of cloth, then... they picked her up and passed her. Come on, we're over that; it's just propaganda because we value the truth here,” he said.

The said viral video showsindividuals giving Kumawu voters rice, eggs and other items, with the intention of influencing their voting choices in the elections. Ernest Yaw Anim, the NPP candidate for the just concluded by-election in Kumawu, won. He received 15,264 votes, or 70.91% of the valid votes. Kwasi Amankwaa, who ran on the NDC list, got3,723 votes, or 17.29%.

Kwaku Duah, an independent got 2,478 votes, or 11.51%, while the other
