According to Michael Duff, head coach of Barnsley, Paul Gascoigne is the ideal illustration of how a player should not approach a Wembley Cup final.

Emotions will be high when Barnsley plays Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet League One play-off final on Monday because local bragging rights are also at stake.

When discussing how he expects his players will manage the occasion, Duff referred to former Tottenham midfielder Gascoigne and his unfortunate involvement in the 1991 FA Cup final against Nottingham Forest.

Gascoigne injured his right knee's cruciate ligament in an early reckless tackle on Forest defender Gary Charles. He was stretchered off the field and missed the entire following season.

Paul Gascoigne, who performed his cruciate in 1991, is a wonderful example, according to Duff.He was so emotional and in such a chaotic state that he came out like a headless chicken. This ultimately caused him harm, and that is what we do not want.

Duff, who won Wembley twice as a player for Burnley (2009) and Cheltenham (1998), claimed he will not be giving any Churchillian speeches shortly before the game.

Not at all, he answered. The structure will remain the same. They are in the wrong position if they need to motivate the players to perform at Wembley, in a play-off final, or in a neighborhood derby.

Just trying to keep things as normal as we can. At that time, you almost want to try to calm them down so they do not act like headless chickens.Keep doing what you have been doing all season; it is what got you to this point. Maintain your intensity, quality, youth, structure, and ability to damage teams in many ways. There will not be any hefty speeches.

Success is said to leave clues; in this case, your actions this season have been the clues. Can you attempt it once more? Hopefully, and with any luck, we succeed in winning the match.

Barnsley, which has improved under former Cheltenham manager Duff's guidance since his hiring in June of last year, is poised to make a swift return to the Championship.
