Sheffield Michael Duff, according to Wednesday manager Darren Moore, has done a "magnificent job" at Barnsley, Wednesday's opponents in the League One Play-off Final.
The all-South Yorkshire match, where the victor will celebrate promotion to the Championship, will take place on Monday, and both managers will be present.
After overcoming a 4-0 aggregate deficit against Peterborough in a thrilling second leg, Wednesday advanced to the final. Barnsley won their spot in the final in less spectacular fashion by narrowly defeating Bolton 2-1 over the course of two legs.
Moore had nothing but admiration for Duff's work.
"I've known Duffers for a little while now over the course of our footballing careers and now into management at the level that we are," Moore said during a press conference prior to the game.
Why don't I surprise myself? Due to his thoroughness, meticulousness, and hard work, as well as the fact that he sees the game, understands the game, and is a worker, he is very shrewd in how he sets up his squad and is aware of the strengths and flaws that his team possesses.
So if you embody that with where he is at, it shows the level of consistency, he has great leadership abilities, is clear and systematic in his approach, and is clear in his viewpoints.
"He's done an outstanding job to go in there and steady the ship and not just steady the ship, but to give the entire place belief in a continuation. He deserves praise for the effort he has completed this season.
As managers, we can take pride in the work we've accomplished over the season, and I must tell him that he did an outstanding job. He already knows this, though, because I told him so after our game against them.
He deserves credit since our two sides will square off once more at Wembley on Monday in an effort to win the final playoff slot that will advance their respective clubs to the Championship.
With 96 points, Wednesday finished third in League One for the year, 10 points ahead of Barnsley, who finished fourth.
In his news conference, Duff made the claim that the Tykes are the underdogs going into the contest, but Moore insisted there are no favorites on Monday.
