After guiding the Perth team to safety, Steven MacLean has been given a three-year deal as manager of St. Johnstone.
The former Saints striker took over as Callum Davidson's interim replacement last month, and in his five decisive Premier League matches since then, he has only suffered one defeat.
Just before he leaves his position as chairman, Steve Brown has rewarded him with an extended contract.
In their final league game on Sunday, MacLean's team will host Livingston, and he said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity."On Friday, I met with the chairman, and we swiftly resolved the issue. I appreciate the chance he and the board have given me.I hold a very special place in my heart for St. Johnstone.
"But the work for next season starts now and I will be giving my all to be a successful St Johnstone manager," he said. "We have secured our SPFL Premiership status and that was my immediate goal."
"I am thrilled to get Steven secured on a three-year contract," Brown stated.I've known him for a long time, and I've always regarded him as a leader. He accomplished his goals as interim manager very fast, and it became very evident that he was the person I wanted to take over as our permanent manager.
"He completely understands St Johnstone from top to bottom and gets along great with our fans. We all think our club is in for excellent days in the future.
Following the departure of Callum Davidson, MacLean was given the position on a temporary basis last month. He guided the Perth team to safety in the easy Premiership, earning him a three-year contract. The 40-year-old moves up from being a player at McDiarmid Park and later a member of the backroom staff to his first position in football management.
According to McLean's statement on the St. Johnstone website, "I'm absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity." "I talked with the chairman last night, and we swiftly resolved the issue. I appreciate the chance he and the board have given me. I hold a very special place in my heart for St. Johnstone.
