Erik ten Hag gives Lisandro Martinez injury update at Manchester United
Lisandro Martinez has been missing since the beginning of April and will not return to Manchester United until next season.
Martinez will return to MU in the coming days to continue his recovery
Erik ten Hag says he expects Lisandro Martinez to return to Carrington in the coming days and hopes he will return from injury in time for pre-season start.
The Manchester United defender has been out for the rest of the campaign after breaking his ankle in last month's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla.
The World Cup winner has been one of United's best performers this season, scoring 45 goals in his first season following a £47m summer move from Ajax. He started in the League Cup final against Newcastle in February but will not feature in next week's FA Cup final due to injury. However, Ten Hag has now provided a positive update on Martinez ahead of his pre-season tour to the United States this summer. Speaking to Viaplay, the Dutchman said:
"I hope Lisandro Martinez will return to the club in the next few days. He will be ready for the pre-season to begin."
Martinez underwent successful surgery within days of his injury, he later wrote on Instagram:
"Everything went great, thank God! Thank you very much for all your messages. Now let's focus on recovery."
The 25-year-old has found a place in Ten Hag's squad, usurping club captain Harry Maguire to be part of Raphael Varane's first choice partner.
He has helped United keep 20 clean sheets this season and scored his first Reds goal against Arsenal in January. United are set to face Leeds United in Oslo on July 12 before heading to the United States on a four-match tour. They will face Arsenal, Lyon, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in friendlies ahead of the new Premier League season, which begins on August 12.
