Meet the unusual and brilliant Abarth 1000 Monoposto Record by Pininfarina.

The Abarth 1000 Monoposto Record Pininfarina was on display by FCA at the FuoriConcorso event on Lake Como in Italy. It is a stunning head-turner of a car. When Pininfarina discovered aerodynamics in 1960, he went a little crazy with it. The design house presented the Pininfarina X as a four-door sedan with a drag coefficient of 0.20, which is still extremely low, at the 42nd Turin Motor Show. It additionally showed Monoposto, which worked at the command of Fiat-Abarth. The Monoposto stood head and shoulders above the rest and was more than just a concept car. It set new standards.

In 1956, work began on the car—actually, two cars—based on specially developed small-capacity engines with aerodynamic capabilities. The Monoposto was able to travel 6,213 miles (10,000 kilometers) at an average speed of 118.7 mph and run for 72 hours at an average speed of 116 mph thanks to the package. Only two of the car's nine international and world records were broken at the race track in Monza. The other nine were set by the car. All of that was made possible by a four-speed transmission and a 1.0-liter, 105-horsepower engine that reached 8,000 rpm. Given that the vehicle only weighs 500 kilograms, or just over 1,102 pounds, driving it must be a frantic experience due to the cockpit's limited space.

The car's 14.9-foot-long tubular chassis and slippery bodywork are what make it special. It's extensive yet sits at simply 3.9 feet tall and 5.08 feet wide, and it was confirmed to contend in Class G. As of now, the vehicle lives in the Stellantis Legacy Center in Turin, close by the independently classified Abarth 750 Record Bertone. Other speed records it holds include:

2,000 miles at an average speed of 201.115 kilometers per hour (124.9 miles per hour). 24 hours at an average speed of 198.795 kilometers per hour (123.525 miles per hour). 5,000 kilometers at an average speed of 199.238 kilometers per hour (123.8 miles per hour). 5,000 miles at an average speed of 192.878 kilometers per hour (119.848 miles per hour). 48 hours at an average speed of 190.264 kilometers per hour (118.224 miles per hour). 10,000 kilometers at
